Turnip Seeds - Hinona Kabu. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Brassica rapa subsp. rapa. Alt names kabu, kabura, manjing, mo ching, wu jing. 40-50 days. Cool season annual. A unique, long, thin, mild-flavored turnip that has a red top, and the bottom two thirds are white. It measures 1.5" wide and up to 12" long. This traditional Japanese vegetable or dento yasai originated in the Shiga prefecture in the 1470s. Used to make sakura zuke or cherry blossom pickle. See recipe on our website. ~ 11,200 seeds / oz.

Turnip Seeds - Hinona Kabu

Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring or late summer/early fall for winter harvest. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Plant every 2 weeks for continuous harvest. Cool temperatures improve the quality and flavor of turnips. Leaves and roots are pickled in rice bran, nuka zuke, or served with a su dressing. Also delicious, and still colorful, when cooked.
