Growing Trentino in the Herb Garden
Start Trentino basil indoors 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting, sowing 0.25 inch deep and keeping the mix lightly moist and warm until germination. Harden seedlings off and transplant after the last frost once nights are consistently mild, or direct sow once soil has warmed.
Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart in full sun to partial shade. Pinch growing tips early to encourage branching, and remove flower buds to keep leaf production high. Water at soil level, mulch to reduce stress, and feed lightly after heavy harvests.
Harvesting of Trentino Basil
Begin cutting once plants are established, harvesting above a leaf node to promote branching. For the best flavor, harvest in the morning and use promptly, or dry leaves gently out of direct sun for longer storage.
About Trentino Basil Garden Seeds
Trentino is a dwarf, large-leaf Italian basil selected for a compact, erect habit and slower bolting. Dark green, glossy leaves reach up to 3 inches long and deliver a classic sweet basil aroma ideal for Mediterranean recipes.
Grow it in beds or containers for steady summer harvests, then use fresh leaves for pesto, sauces, and salads, or preserve harvests by drying or freezing.
Tips From Our Gardeners
Pinch basil early and often. Cutting the top set of leaves every week keeps plants short, bushy, and productive, and it delays flowering so you get more tender leaves over a longer season.
