Growing Lucullus Swiss Chard Vegetable Garden Seeds

Lucullus Swiss Chard seeds should be sown in soil that is rich, but loose, with a pH between 6 and 6.4. The best and most simple way to achieve this is to mix compost and sand into the soil. Sow the seeds about ¼" of an inch deep in the soil, keeping rows around 18" apart and plants 18-24" apart. The soil should be kept moist throughout their growth, and they should be planted in an area that has full sun. After 50 days, you can start to harvest the stems. They can be taken off of the plant, or the plant can be cut at the base, 1" above the soil surface. This will allow for healthy regrowth throughout the summer season.

Facts:

Deliciously bitter and fresh in taste, these leaves are a member of the beet family, but taste more like spinach. Steam them or use them in a salad.
