Growing Glass Gem Popcorn Garden Seeds
Begin by sowing directly outdoors, one inch deep with six to eight inches between seeds and thirty inches between rows. It is important to grow corn in blocks of multiple rows to enable pollination via wind. When choosing a site in your garden, keep the sun in mind; these tall stalks have the potential to block the sunlight from other plants. While growing, the crops will need one to one and a half inches of water each week. When the kernels are firm, the ear is ripe. To harvest, firmly pull the ear downwards while twisting. The unhusked ears can be kept in the fridge for up to one week.
About Organic Glass Gem Corn in the Vegetable Garden
This wonderful new ornamental popcorn produces a diversity of gorgeous translucent, jewel-colored ears, each one unique. The vivid, kernels have a translucent seed coat. A bit of the white endocarp shows through giving the sense of a shinning jewel. Size of ears range from 3-8 inches. Corn plants commonly produce numerous tillers, or side stalks, which also produce ears. The height of the stalks can depend upon the quantity of water but can generally reach a max of 9 feet, but are typically 6 feet. A popcorn, the kernels may be ground into cornmeal or popped. Harvest when the husks are dry and brown for the most intense and translucent colors.
