DESCRIPTION
Growing Non-GMO Detroit White Beet Vegetable Garden Seeds
Non-GMO heirloom Detroit White beet seeds grow a cool weather garden crop best sown directly in early spring or early fall. Plant 3-4 Detroit White seeds ½" deep and 1-2" apart in fertile, Organically rich, well-drained garden soil in full sun. Non-GMO beet vegetable seeds germinate in 5-10 days, then thin back in the garden to 1 plant every 2-3" once true leaves establish. Sow heirloom sugar beets in the garden every 2-3 weeks for replete harvests, and season-long growing. Like many root vegetables, Non-GMO Detroit white beet seeds do not transplant well and prefer direct garden sowing.
Since the turn of the 20th century, the open-pollinated Detroit beet has been the preferred choice for homegrown classic American beets. Introduced in 1892 by Detroit's world famous D.M. Ferry Seed Company, the American heirloom beet eventually adopted the moniker "Detroit" since it became widely known that the best beet seeds hailed from the "Motor City."
