DESCRIPTION
Growing Tall Double Mix Strawflower Garden Seeds
Sow Tall Double Mix strawflower seeds directly outside 1-2 weeks before final frost or, for earliest blooms, begin indoors in peats or starting trays 4-6 weeks sooner. Whether indoors or out, firm soil over the seeds and keep moist. Sow strawflower Tall Double Mix seeds ¼" deep with 8-12" apart in average, loamy, and well-drained soil in full sunlight. Germination will take about 7 days depending on conditions. Stake and support taller plants, but Tall Double Mix strawflowers generally do not need any special care and are very drought and heat resistant. Tall Double Mix strawflowers have no serious pests, but can be susceptible to a viral-like disease called aster yellows. Plants affected by asters yellow will exhibit yellow growth and stunted blooming. Remove infected strawflowers and check for leafhoppers transmitting the disease from infected plants to healthy ones. Tall Double Mix strawflower seeds reach full maturity in 70 - 84 days as 24-36" bushy shrubs with a compact 8-10" spread of 2-3" double-blooms all in a mix of rose, purple, yellow, white, orange, red, and brown. Harvest flowers regularly to encourage re-bloom. To dry, remove foliage from strawflowers, bunch loosely and hang upside down in a warm, shady, airy place.
Helichrysum bracteatum is native to Australia's expansive grasslands, often growing in wide and far-reaching droves.
