Growing Mr. Stripey Tomato Garden Seeds

Sowing & Growing:

In cooler climates, Mr. Stripey Tomato seeds are best started indoors 6 weeks before your region's final spring frost. Begin sowing summer annual tomato plants with a seed-starting container under grow lights. Plant seeds 1/4" in a warm and moist rich starting mix. If using grow lights, be sure to expose seedlings to light for the duration of the day and turn them off for 8-10 hours during the night. Germination will take 1-2 weeks. With seed trays and cells, transplant young Mr. Stripey plants to 3" containers before hardening off and moving tomatoes outdoors. In 3 weeks or once tomato plants have 2-3 sets of true leaves, expose Mr. Stripey Tomato plants to outside conditions for 1 week. Sow Mr. Stripey Tomato seeds outdoors once the threat of frost has passed or once your region's night temperatures don't dip below 50°. Mr. Stripey heirlooms prefer full sun and a warm-to-hot temperature range of 70-90° with 75° for germination. Till rich, composted soil and prepare 8-12" holes. Remove the smaller leaves on each Mr. Stripey plant, leaving a single top set of sturdy leaves. Plant just 2" above the soil, with only their top set of healthy leaves exposed. Space the plants 2-3" apart with 5-6" in between rows. Use a trellis for support. As Mr. Stripey plants can reach 8-10" tall, it's highly recommended to use a large trellis or cage to support long vine growth. Feed your tomatoes by scattering a fertilizer made of peat moss and vermiculite throughout crop development. Water Mr. Stripey Tomatoes 1-2" per week. Varieties like Mr. Stripey seeds thrive with nurturing and more space. Using row covers or mulch will help grow a vibrant garden all summer long. In general, tomatoes prefer rich and well-drained soil with compost and a pH level of 6.0-6.8. Mr. Stripey indeterminate seeds yield an abundant crop of yellow sweet fruit with delicate skin and juicy texture. These heirloom tomatoes make a fresh addition to any salad.

Harvesting:

As Mr. Stripey seeds are a mid-to-late summer season crop, these meaty plants should be ready for harvest 80 days from the sowing date. As an indeterminate crop, this juicy variety will produce a delicate fruit texture in mid-to-late summer and continue growing abundantly until your region's first frost. Harvest Mr. Stripey Heirloom Tomatoes before their skin feels too soft and once their warm-yellow and red colors are bright. It's recommended to begin harvesting tomatoes once they start to turn in color. Harvest tomato plants by gently pulling the bright-red fruit from their calyx hat with one hand, while holding the stem with the other. You can also use gardening shears so you don't damage the large and delicate tomatoes. Since Mr. Stripey seeds are known for their sweet flavor right off the vine, add garden grown tomatoes as a fresh appetizer by simply slicing and seasoning them!

Facts:

As a cousin heirloom tomato that is close to the English "Tigerella" type, the Mr. Stripey beefsteak variety is technically a separate fruit. Mr. Stripey Tomatoes developed out of Georgia around the 1990s by Wayne Hilton.
