Growing Organic Green Zebra Tomato Garden Seeds

Sowing & Growing:

Sow tender annual heirloom tomatoes with a seed-starting container under grow lights 5-8 weeks before your region's final frost. Plant seeds 1/4" in a warm and rich starting mix. Organic Green Zebra Tomatoes thrive in a temperature range of 70-90°. Germination will take 1-2 weeks. Transplant young seedlings to 3" containers. Once summer hybrid tomatoes have 2-3 sets of true leaves, harden plants off by exposing them to outside conditions. Sow non-GMO Zebra Tomato seeds outdoors once your region's climate remains above 50°. This indeterminate tomato prefers full sun and needs 1" of watering per week, especially during fruit development. Allow the top layer of soil to dry before watering. Till rich, composted soil and prepare 8-12" holes. Remove the smaller leaves on each plant, leaving a single top set of leaves. Set Green Zebra Tomatoes deep in the hole, with only their top leaves exposed. Space the plants 1-2" apart in between rows or in a container that is at least 18" deep for a single plant. Use a stake or trellis to help the growth of these clusters of yellow-green tomatoes as required, as plants reach 5" tall and keep on producing. The bright 2" fruit of Organic Green Zebra Tomatoes develop zig zags and a sweet, tangy flavor. As a highly productive mid-season crop, these small, yet eye catching tomatoes reach perfect flavor on the vine and into early fall. Feed heirloom tomato plants by scattering a fertilizer made of peat moss and vermiculite throughout development. Non-GMO Green Zebra Tomato plants are crack-resistant and love the heat. Organic heirloom varieties prefer loamy, rich and well-drained soil with a pH level of 6.0-6.8.

Harvesting:

As Organic Green Zebra Tomato crops are a highly productive variety, these long vine tomatoes should be ready for harvest around 75 days from the sowing date. This indeterminate tomato will grow small bright clusters until your region's first frost. Harvest by gently pulling the yellow-green fruit from their calyx hat with one hand, while holding the stem with the other. Harvest consistently to allow more growth. You can also use gardening shears so you don't damage the tender globe-shaped 2" tomatoes. Pick your final harvest of tomatoes during fall and allow them to ripen at room temperature. These sweet and tangy hybrid tomatoes reach perfect flavor on the vine and mature into late summer as a popular fall crop for gardeners who love to cook or just eat fresh. You can also store Zebra Tomatoes by freezing them.

Green Zebra Tomatoes were first developed as a 4 different hybrid heirloom tomato varieties around the 1980s by Tom Wagner. Even though these tomatoes only grow 2", their eye catching clusters produce bright flavor that adds a tangy sweetness to fresh salsa!
